Reiner Kraft is VP Engineering of Search, Personalization and Research at Zalando, where he is responsible for building up and leading the technical direction of Zalando’s core search platform, personalisation technology, and data engineering platforms. He has also spearheaded the establishment and development of Zalando Research and currently leads the team.
Reiner earned his Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of California, Santa Cruz, where his thesis advisor was Raymie Stata. He later joined the university as an adjunct professor, teaching Web Engineering topics until 2014.
Reiner’s key strengths lay in innovation and idea generation, having filed over 125 patent applications. In 2003, he was recognised as a Master Inventor within IBM’s research division, as well as at Yahoo! during his time at the company in 2011. Reiner has previously been nominated by Silicon Valley Magazine as one of the most prolific inventors in Silicon Valley. In 2002, he was given the TR100 Award from MIT Technology Review, a prestigious award recognising individuals that utilise extraordinary innovation for societal impact.
