Julia is a Research Scientist in the Machine Learning / AI group at Zalando Research. After completing an engineering diploma in Computer Science and Applied Mathematics in France, Julia went on to study Machine Learning for her PhD at the University of Cambridge, where she applied Bayesian Statistics to Computer Vision. Interested in the new era of big data in biology, she completed her postdoctoral research at the Max Planck Institute for Molecular Genetics in Berlin before joining Zalando at the end of 2013. During her research time, Julia has enjoyed the diversity of applications that machine learning provides in Computer Vision, Bioinformatics, and various fashion-related problems. After spending some time on the problem of visual search for fashion, Julia’s work is currently focused on representation learning and variational autoencoders.
